Ely dispute resolved

A DISPUTE between Bishop Alan Clark of East Anglia and Fr Brendan Peters, the priest in charge of St Ethelreda's, Ely, Cambridgeshire, is over.

Fr Peters had claimed he had ▪ been "made redundant". But on Monday he issued a statement saying that the affair was "all a misunderstanding" and that he was very sorry. When he returns from holiday he will be taking up his work again.

Earlier, Bishop Clark had made a public statement saying that his one concern at Ely had been to ensure that the parishioners should have provision made for their Sunday Mass while St Ethelreda's was being repaired.
