appeal

WONDER if you would allow me to add to Lucy Lethbridge's interesting article (Catholic Herald, June 19) about the Clifton chapel.

To meet the cost of the work to be done the Trustees will have to find well over £600,000. The chapel is listed Grade I and it is believed grant aid will be agreed by English Heritage.

Following a generous bequest and a contribution from the Society of Jesus, the Trustees decided to launch an appeal for £250,000.

A direct appeal is being made to groups, and societies and events are being organised in Wiltshire and in London.

A number of very generous people have already supported the appeal but we have only achieved a small fraction of the target.

I feel sure that many of your readers will share our concern that this wonderful church which is both a great work of genius and a living focus for the Catholic faith should be cared for and preserved for future generations. I will be delighted to supply leaflets and details of the appeal to anyone who cares to write to me.
