I WRITE in response to the article by Lucy Lethbridge on Israel (Catholic Herald, June 19). Having spent time living and working in both Israel and the occupied territories I found this article to be both inaccurate, shallow and biased.
It did nothing to portray the real issues of the IsraeliPalestinian conflict.
Neither does the review show that the majority of the killings in the territories are committed by Palestinians against Palestinians. Are these killings also part of this supposed "genocide" being committed by the Israelis?
The fact is that many of the problems that are faced daily by the residents of the territories are the result of the various Palestinian terrorist organisations. These groups have infiltrated every aspect of Palestinian life bringing fear and trepidation to the lives of ordinary respectable Palestinian people.
The review also fails to mention that the territories since 1967 have had far more services than ever before Israeli occupation.
Schools and universities have been built, many new water and sewage systems provided which in turn have lead to greatly reduced child mortality and improved life expectancy.
I therefore disagree with Br White's slanderous declarations of genocide.
