A dozen Carmelite nuns, led by their Prioress, were allowed out of the convent at Fulwood to vote in the Preston North division. They Went to the poll by car. Bishop Flynn having granted permission for
them to leave the convent. For some of them it was their first glimpse of the outer world for many years.
