Pray for the new Government

Mgr. Beck, Coadjutor Bishop of Brentwood and chairman of the Hierarchy's Action Cornmittee for the schools, asks for prayers for the new Government in a pastoral' letter read in the churches on Sunday.

" Our rulers," the bishop writes, " will be faced with difficult decisions in policy and administration both at home and abroad.

" The financial situation at home and the difficulties of the international situation, linked in our minds with the deadly threat of new and more terrible weapons of warfare, must remind us of the duty which lies upon us all of praying that God's wisdom and grace may guide those, in authority who have such heavy responsibilities, and on

whom the welfare and safety of so many depend.

" We must remember that in Catholic teaching the source of all authority is God our Creator, and that our obedience to and respect For civil authority are duties of conscience which we pay to all legitimate authority, which draws its dignity from the dignity of God Himself.

" Remember this duty of prayer for those in authority during the difficult dimes which lie ahead of us."
