Thief calls twice

But stole the wrong candlestick

The parishioners of St. Wilfrid's Church, York, are waiting to see if a certain thief will have the nerve to try to rob the church of a third candlestick-or return two.

Canon Farrar recently had the candlesticks silver-gilled. One was stolen, and then the thief apparently had the audacity to return to steal another to match it. But he took one from another set.

It is hoped that, finding himself with two unmatched candlesticks, he will return therm About this time last year a gold chalice was stolen from St. Wilfrid's but it was returned, being handed in at one of the Leeds presbyteries.
