Pope Paul has chosen "teaching peace" as the theme for the World Day of Peace to be held on January 1 next year. An official Vatican statement released by the Apostolic Delegation in London yester day said the theme had been chosen because peace depended on people and people in turn depended on their education.
The statement said that teaching peace to the world meant helping people to set up the machinery to safeguard peace on a national and international scale. This would involve setting up political and juridical institutions, and a network of economic, social and cultural links.
Particular stress was placed on the need to work for the full recognition of human rights and liberties worldwide.
