Look no hands!

Last May our Bishops obtained permission from the Holy See to allow the faithful the freedom to receive Holy Communion in the hand. In their statement at the time the bishops said: 1. Catholics will be free to choose to receive Holy Communion either on the tongue or in the hand.

2. At all times both ways of receiving the sacrament will remain legitimate alternatives for any cornmunicant.

I find it sad that in a number of churches the enthusiasm of the faithful to receive Holy Communion in the hand is not supported by their clergy, and that in some churches the option to receive Communion in the hand is not available.

know of one parish church in Surrey where the servers remain in the side pews during the distribution of Holy Communion and the celebrant takes the paten to be handed from one communicant to the next during the distribution of Communion.

If you are handed a paten it is impossible to exercise the preference to take Communion in the hand.
