Thanks from overseas

This letter is to say many thanks to those readers of the Catholic Herald who responded to the letter "A Call from Chile" which appeared in your newspaper just before Christmas.

The generous contributions amounted to more than £17, which was gratefully received by Sister Dorothea Underhill, MM, a Maryknoll Sister who is deeply involved in helping those in our parish who are in need of food and medicine.

Even though she is 73 years old she works as hard as a young sister, giving out bread and other essential items to more than 50 families at 7.30 in the morning.

Due to the economic situation, my Scouts were able to spend only six days on a camping trip, where as before it was for two weeks. The left-over food was given to Sister Dorothea for her needy families.

Many families in the parish who have a little extra are very generous also in helping others who are going through difficulties because of no work or other problems at home. I have personally answered each letter received here in Chile from your readers to thank them for their sacrifice in helping others in another part of the world.

On behalf of the Augustinian Fathers. John's Lane, Dublin, I appeal to readers who may have some Green Shield Stamps to spare, to send them to me and I will use them to buy gifts which we shall raffle on our "Wheel ofFortune" at our sale of work and garden fete, and thereby raise funds to help Augustinian Fathers and Brothers working in mission fields. This is one way to help people of the Third World and ease their sufferings. Donors will ever he remembered in the prayers and Masses of the Augustinian Fathers. We arc urgently in need of funds. (Mrs) Make Gallagher 22 Glasilawn Road.

Glasnevin, Dublin I I.
