Once through the odd nomenclature (which followers of this happy series doubtless are), the not so gentle reader with a heart correctly positioned and nerves this side of needing a nightlight can settie down to a, gripping read -as well as a gripping look at the friendly and immediate illustrations by Brian Robb.

Where the plot proves a trifle slender the characters energetically bundle us through; • should somebody act out of character (Great Bear's momentary weediness) the plot rushes on before we can comment, to end with a splendid arses ex machine.
