Princess Grace 'miracles' claimed

THE VATICAN has asked for detailed medical evidence of two "miracles" claimed to have been performed by the late Princess Qrace of Monaco.

One case concerns an /1-yearold French girl whose sight is said to have been restored after her family prayed to the princess. She was blinded in a car crash in Monaco, and claims that Princess Grace appeared to her on the first anniversary of her death, and cured her.

In the other case, a French woman claims to have been cured of stomach cancer after touching the princess's tomb, which has become a shrine for pilgrims to Monaco.

The Vatican is keeping a low profile on the whole affair. If they agree to go ahead with any canonisation proceedings a Devil's Advocate would be appointed, who would look into the late Princess's past life.

He would be likely to look very critically at her life as film star Grace Kelly. Before she married Prince Rainier of Monaco in 1956, she is said to have had love affairs with at least two other famous film stars.

But Mgr. Piero Pintus of the Basilica of San Lorenzo in Rome, who holds Masses in her honour there, is apparently a firm believer in the stories of miracles attributed to Princess Grace, and maintains that she led "a holy existence" after her marriage.
