Church accused
THE SOUTH African government has accused the country's churches, church leaders and organisations of a worldwide propaganda campaign to support the banned African National Congress's efforts to incite social and labour unrest. A statement criticised the World Council of Churches but did not name specific churches or individual church leaders in South Africa.
Mass graves
ZIMBABWE'S Government has challenged the Catholic Church and the minority opposition Zapu party of Mr Joshua Nkomo to pinpoint the graves of alleged atrocity victims in Matabeleland province. Bishop Henry Karlen of Matabeleland, though not invited, said he was sure the mission priests would give evidence.
Episcopal converts
FIVE more Episcopal priests in the United States were ordained to the Catholic priesthood in early April, bringing to 18 the number of Episcopalians ordained under the special US pastoral provisions effective from 1982. All but two of the 18 are married.
Pnestless parish
A 40-YEAR-OLD nun is to administer a Tasmanian parish which has been without a priest for a year because of the clergy shortage. Priests of the Hobart diocese will celebrate Mass there on Sundays.
New general
MOTHER MARIA Bonfilia Erzeaka, a 49-year old Pole, is the new Superior General of the Daughters of Divine Charity, who have 1,700 members in
England, Czechoslovakia, Brazil, Poland, Yugoslavia, Hungary, Austria and the United States. Mother Erzeska has been provincial superior of the orders Polish province.
Seychelles too
THE FOREIGN minister of Seychelles, Mr Maxime Ferrari, has intimated that his country will soon be opening diplomatic relations with the Holy See. He was speaking after a meeting with the Papal secretary of State, Cardinal Agostino Casaroli.
