Archbishop Dwyer resigns

THE POPE has formally accepted the resignation of Archbishop George Patrick Dwyer of Birmingham.

The archbishop, who is 72 year old, submitted his resignation several months ago, saying that he was too unwell to continue running the archdiocese.

He will take on the post of Apostolic Administrator of the archdiocese until a new archbishop has been appointed • The Church of England has announced the appointment of a new Bishop of Truro. He is Bishop Peter Mumford (58) the Suffragan Bishop of Hertford.

The vacancy was created by the appointment of Dr Graham L.eonard as Bishop of London,
