Communists' day was Communion day

May Day was celebrated in Italy on Monday as a national holiday, in accordance with the custom established in the early post-war years when the Communists had greater influence in the legislature.

But many Roman parents took advantage of the " Labour Day " stoppage of work by sending their children in the traditional white clothes to receive their first Communions.
