The Catholics of Erdington, Birmingham, marked May Day with a public meeting of protest against the persecution in Czechoslovakia.
Fr. Wilfred Hughes, C.SS.R., Superior of Erdington Abbey, spoke of one of the victims he knows personally, Fr. J. B. Mastylak, recently sentenced at the age of 40 to life imprisonment for " espionage " a man, said Fr. Hughes, interested in nothing except his studies and the duties of his priesthood.
