Lively Bible

AN ANNUAL bazaar-cumexhibition which includes displays, models, authentic costumes from Jerusalem at the time of the Bible will be held November 24-28 at St Nicolas Parish Church in Nuneaton, Warwickshire. "The Bible Comes to Life" is presented by the Church's Ministry among the Jews.

Cafod crafts

ARCHBISHOP DEREK Worlock of Liverpool rang a bell that came from the town of Wum in the Cameroons last Friday to mark the opening of CAFOD and Traideraft's new shop, Tradefair, in Liverpool, which sells produce from Third World countries.

St Mary's schooldays

MORE THAN 250 priests, nuns and lay members of the dioceses of Westminster, Brentwood and East Anglia attended the summer school held at St Mary's, Twickenham, at the end of last month.

The week-long Catholic programme included visits from Cardinal Hume, Bishop Victor Guazzelli, Auxiliary Bishop of Westminster, and Bishop Alan Clark of East Anglia. Cardinal Hume praised the summer school as "the most authentic signs of the activity of the Holy Spirit".

Cardinal at Transfiguration

ON SUNDAY Cardinal Hume will be the main con-celebrant, assisted by 25 priests, at a multiple celebration taking place at the Church of the Transfiguration, in honour of the parish's Silver Jubilee and of the taking of vows of three seminarians and of the renewal of vows of one Camillian student.

New in Lincoln

THE CHURCH of England has announced that the Rev Robert Hardy, suffragan bishop of Maidstone since 1980, will succeed Rev Simon Phipps as Bishop of Lincoln. Bishop Hardy is also Bishop to Prisons.

SPUC grant

OVER 20 people from all around the country took part in a 50-mile sponsored walk from London to Brighton last weekend to help raise £30,000 for research into Downs Syndrome. The walk, organised by the Society for the Protection of the Unborn Child was led by the group's National General Secretary, John Smeaton.

Royal Visit

THE PRINCESS of Wales will visit the hospice unit at the Hospital of St John and Si Elizabeth in London on October 9.

Peace pilgrims

MORE THAN 1,000 handicapped people and their supporters will meet at St Alban's Cathedral and celebrate Communion on September 14 in an ecumenical gesture.
