Lebanon aid targets

ONLY £500,000 has so far been given to the Disasters Emergency Committee appeal for Lebanon. The Catholic Fund for Overseas Development is one of the five charities which will administer the donations.

In addition to the funds it has already released from previous donations, Cafod will be making available further grants of nearly £50,000 for the Lebanon emergency.

Some £7,500 will go through the Nunciature in Damascus (Syria) for the Caritas social centre supporting Palestinian refugees and about £17,000 for the Caritas Syria programme with Palestinian refugees.

About £5,000 will go to Caritas Lebanon for reconstruction; £2,500 to help the activities of the Daughters of Charity in Saida with Palestinians; and £5,000 for relief activities in Western Beirut.

A further £5,000 is to be made available through Caritas Internationalis, the official Catholic relief body, for immediate requests.
