New school for oldest parish

Work is about to begin at Maryvale on the second post-war Catholic seeondary school for Birmingham.

This is the oldest Catholic parish within the city with a continuous history from 1679. It was the site of Oscott College before the present buildings were erected and was vacated just before Cardinal Newman and his friends settled there after their conversion in 1845.

The Sisters of Mercy recently celebrated the centenary of their arrival in Maryvale.
