ro Tuesday about 60 head14-0 teachers and priests attended the first meeting for chaplains of Catholic secondary and comprehensive schools in Westminster Archdiocese since they were appointed a month ago.
Fr, David Konstant, the director of school chaplains, told them their primary work is pastoral, getting to know the children, having informal chats, making sacraments available in the school. The secondary aim — teaching — is also important. Only priests can give an "inside view" on officiating at liturgical rites and on being a priest. He told the CATHOLIC HERALD afterwards that the priests, who take 12 hours a week from their regular parish duties to work in the schools are finding their new role as chaplains very worthwhile.
