Cardinal Ugo Poletti. papal vicar for Rome. has asked Cathblics in the Diocese or Rome to present any evidence they might have for or against the beatification cause or Mgr. Josemaria Escriva de Balaguer founder of Opus Dei.
A statement from the cardinal was published in L'Osservatore Romano and the eardina) required that it be posted on the doors of all Rome churches for four weeks, in accordance with provisions of canon law for the start of a beatification process.
The statement directed that "any writing, whether written or printed, original or copy, which was authored by the abovementioned servant of God. on any subject whatsoever be given to the vicariate of Rome for use in the investigations on whether the priest should be beatified.
"In addition. we remind each and every Catholic, priest, religious or lay, of the strict obligation imposed on them by the Code of Canon Law to give us notice or anything which could argue against the sanctity of the above-mentioned servant of God or against the miracles which are said to have taken place through his intercession." the statement said.
Mgr Eseriva died in 1975 after guiding for 47 years the Opus Dei movement. which has 700)0 members representing 80 nationalities.
