MAY I MAKE a few corrections to Patrick O'Donovan's Charterhouse. October 30. Not "a great deal" of what he wrote was taken from my history of Peter's Pence, part 1, in Catena: he used just some of the information from the original article but delightfully transposed into a fresh context so that a slightly different impression came across.
The Friends of the HolyFather have been flourishing for over a year and have already registered themselves as a charity; potential members will find the secretary's name and address in the new Catholic Directory.
We sent a first, token cheque to the Holy Father last year just in time. as it happened, to contribute to his expenses in the Gemelli Hospital. which were paid for out of Peter's Pence.
This year, the Holy Father has suggested that we contribute to the John Paul II Institute for the study of the family and of marriage, which he has recently founded and, with luck, we might also manage to help in the updating of Vatican Radio and TV equipment, which is a continuous process.
I liked Patrick O'Donovan's flattering reference to me. I wish I were learned. Alas, I am not.
