United memorial

THE HALL of Westminster Cathedral is the venue for a memorial meeting for the Rev Dr James Parkes. one of the principle architects of The Council of Christians and Jews. Dr Parkes died on August 6 this year. the meeting on November Is will be presided over by Bishop George Appleton, former Anglican Archbishop in .lerusalem. Also present will be Fr Francis Wahle.

Epsom priest

A LARGE congregation turned out at St Joseph's church in Epsom. Surrey, for the induction of Fr William Oliver Heaney as the new parish priest. The ceremony was conducted by Bishop Cormac MurphyO'Connor of Arundel and Brighton.

Mayor praised

ARCHBISHOP Derek Worlock of Liverpool has praised the "outstanding service" of the Lord Mayor of Liverpool. Councillor Cyril Carr, who died on Sunday. He said the community troubles of the summer months must have contributed to the strain on the Lord Mayor.

Catholic union

.tHE HEIR to the Dukedom of Buceleuch, the 27-year-old Earl of Dalkeith. is marrying a Catholic. Lad) Elizabeth Kerr, youngest daughter of the Marquis of Lothian. The Earl is a former page to Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother.

Deaf Mass

l'HE DEAF will be able to take part fully in a lass at St John the Baptist's Cathedral, Norwich. at which Bishop Alan Clark will he principal celebrant and also preach. It will be celebrated in sign language as well as in the spoken word: the text will be shown on screens: and a loop system will be installed to help wearers of hearing aids.
