" SAYS THE SAME AS THE POPE" Vatican Paper Praises Cordell Hull

The Osaervatore Rommo, semiofficial Vatican newspaper, has written appreciatively of the speech delivered by Mr Cordell Hull on the occasion of the recent Pan-American celebrations.

The Osservatore recalls that the Pope, in his allocution to the new Belgian Ambassador to the Holy See places the sacred rights of the human person and individual liberty at the foundation of international order, as well as respect for religion, collaboration between the nations, the just distribution of goods, the safeguarding of the honour and liberty of nations, the respect of treaties, and of promises, and the absence of recourse to force.

The Vatican newspaper states that Mr Cordell Hull said exactly the same thing in almost identical terms.

It concludes: " It is impossible not to notice an almost complete identity between the declarations of the statesman of one of the most powerful and realist nations in the world, and the principles enunciated by the highest moral authority on earth."
