RUSSIAN ORTHODOX

Sig-So far as I know, the Patriarch of Moscow has not claimed jurisdiction over the Autocephalous Orthodox Churches of Yugoslavia, Rumania and Bulgaria, whatever influence he would like to exercise there. But I am only too well aware that he has taken advantage of the Soviet Government's tyranny in respect of Catholics of Byzantine Rite in the Western Ukraine and the Podkarpatska Rus, to which Archpriest Paul refers. Other matters arc not so clear. My point was that "Anti-Russian Orthodoxy" is not the answer to Patriarch Sergey's anti-Catholicism: and that Russian Orthodox Bishops under Soviet rule need our pray crs more than our criticism.

Donald Attwater.
