Mass centre for new coal town

Fr. Bernard Mooney, of the Good Shepherd Church, Arnold, Notts, has opened a new Mass centre at Calverton. Here a new pit has been sunk by the National Coal Board and many hundreds of miners will in the future convert the village into an urban township.

The first Mass was said in the home of a Catholic family, but it is hoped eventually to build a church and presbytery.
