whose execution for allegedly planning the January assassination of the Army Counter Intelligence Chief, Lt. Gen. Kim Chang-yong. was postponed last month, is reported to have become a Catholic.
Col. Tai Yung Huh was baptised by Fr. John Pak in the Seoul City Prison and took the name Matthew.
Col. Huh won his reprieve following new evidence supplied by his wife two days before the execution date.
The case has been reopened and the execution postponed indefinitely.
The conversion was brought to public notice when in an interview he stated that he "couldn't believe in suicide" since he is a Catholic.
