Proposal to Close Holy Sepulchre

From Our Own Correspondent.

Jeausnat.r.

With theapproach of Easter festivities, which are usually celebra• ted in the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, representatives of the Christian Arab communities refused the proposal made by the Jerusalem District Commissioner, on the advice of the Public Works Departrnent, to close the Holy Sepulchre, which is situated in the great rotunda, in order to prevent its collapse, which is feared by the steady deterioration of the structure.

It will be remembered that the Holy Sepulchre was for some time during 1936 closed for the same reason whilst repairs were in progress. Iron scaffolding was erected inside and outside the building to strengthen the walls to prevent further decay.

The Pope will hold a Secret Consistory regarding the five forthcoming

canonization on Monday next. A public Consistory will follow.
