HEXHAM and Newcastle's longest reigning Bishop—Mgr. Joseph McCormack died after a long illness, patiently borne, fast Sunday morning. And as the news began to filter through the diocese there was sorrow and sadness at the loss of one who had endeared himself to all by his calm, kindly demeanour and his warm, charming, and disarming smile.
Only a month ago there was recalled his elevation which took place in St. Mary's Cathedral, Newcastle on February 4, 1937, and in those 21 years the story of the Hexham and Newcastle diocese has been one of steady growth and development.
