A fire lasting several hours broke out last week at the Convent of the Sisters of Mercy, Westbury-on-Trym, Bristol, when the upper floor was completely destroyed and theeroof gutted.
Sewing and knitting machines, including a new electrical knitting apparatus, were destroyed, as were also cots, children's uniforms, stocks of linen, wool and cloth.
No one was injured and at the time the children were aSieep in the air raid shelter below the building.
