Australian Bishop Dead

The death was announced in Melbourne on Friday of Mgr. Daniel Foley, Bishop of Ballarat, Victoria. Mgr. Foley was horn in County Cork in 1866, and was educated at Mount Melleray Abbey, St. Coleman's College, Fermoy and Maynooth. He was ordained in 1889 and went to Australia in the following year. He served in a number of parishes in the Melbourne Archdiocese, and was finally appointed parish priest at Terang in 1908. He remained at this last parish until his elevation to the episcopate in 1916.

As Bishop of Ballarat he was suffragan to his fellow-Corkman and old school friend, Archbishop Manna, of Melbourne.
