Ship's galley for college extension

FORMERLY the home of a Manchester merchant millionaire, Ward Hall is to be blessed and opened tomorrow by Mgr. Marshall, Bishop of Salford as an extension to Xaverian College, Manchester.

The hall, a Georgian mansion which faces the existing school buildings, has been enlarged and converted at a cost to the college authorities of £27,000.

New dining halls, with separate rooms for members of the college staffs and senior students, cloakrooms, five classrooms, including a music room and cinema projection room. kitchens and accommodation for domestic staff are included in the extension.

The gardens of the house have been acquired as additional playing grounds.

The kitchens, to be paid for by the Ministry of Education, are laid out In the design of a ship's kitchen, contain every modern device for cleanliness and labour saving. Washing sinks have sterilisation equipment, and there is an up-to-date refrigeration plant.
