Night vigil at congress in Assisi

TEN thousand torches illumi

nated the streets of Assisi this week when a night vigil was kept in a number of churches during the Italian National Congress.

At the close of the vigil, the pilgrims made a general Holy Communion.

The Blessed Sacrament will be borne in solemn procession on Sunday afternoon from the cathedral to the Basilica of St. Mary of the Angels in the plain below, and in the evening the Holy Father will address the pilgrims by radio.

The congress — the first in Italy for 14 years—opened on Wednesday with the reception of the Papal Legate, Cardinal Schuster, Archbishop of Milan, by the religious and civic authorities of Assisi.
