' Cashel presided at the Requiem Mass last week for Mgr, John Hayes, founder of the Irish Rural Movement. Muintir nit Tire, who died last week after an operation. Mgr. Hayes was 68.

Also present with a great crowd of people were Bishop O'Neill of Limerick, Bishop Lucey, of Cork. the Prime Minister. Mr. John Costello. Mr. de Valera, and other government officials.

About 5,000 people and hundreds of cars followed the car taking Mgr. Hayes back to his home parish of Bansha, Co. Tipperary fur In 1937 Mgr. Hayes founded the first of some 400 parish guilds which foster local crafts and industries and do much to make rural life brighter and more progressive.
