About 5,000 people and hundreds of cars followed the car taking Mgr. Hayes back to his home parish of Bansha, Co. Tipperary fur In 1937 Mgr. Hayes founded the first of some 400 parish guilds which foster local crafts and industries and do much to make rural life brighter and more progressive.
