The solemn inauguration of Rheims Cathedral takes place on Sunday.
The festival begins today with a mediaeval mystery play which will be acted in the cathedral square, and the exterior of the cathedral will be floodlit.
The grand inaugural ceremony on Sunday will consist of Pontifical High Mass and an address by Cardinal Suhard, Archbishop of Rheims.
Cardinal Hinsley, Archbishop of Westminster, will head the English delegation. Six members of the House of Lords and six M.P.s will also attend.
It is stated that altogether there will be ten Cardinals and fifty Archbishops and Bishops at the ceremony.
