The Rev. Francis Hays, P.P., of Beeston, Nottingham, on Sunday paid a touching tribute to two of the pioneer workers in the parish, who passed away last week.
The Rev. Mother. Mary Stanislaus, at one time the Rev. Mother at the Convent of Mercy, was a parish worker and Sunday School teacher under Canon Douglass over forty years ago. She taught in an upper room in a disused factory before the canon built the present church in 1898.
Mrs. Solloway, who died on Friday night at the age of 89, lived under five bishops of Nottingham. She was a zealous parish worker for over fifty years, and could recall the days when the few scattered Catholics had to walk to Nazareth House, to hear Sunday Mass at 7 a.m.
