The task of organising the Catholic apostolate a r 0 fl g 2,OOO.00O or 13.000,000 Chinese living abroad has been entrusted to Mgr. Charles Van Meickebeke, a Belgian-born Bishop who was expelled from his diocese of Ninghsia by the Chinese Cornmunists in 1952. the Fides News AgencyTeported last week-end.

Bishop Van Melebeke was appointed visitor for South-Eastern Asia to Chinese-speaking priests to Chinese emigrees in Japan, the Philippines. Hong Kong. Indonesia, Vietilam. Malaya. Thailand, purma and India. as well as Africa, Europe and the Americas.

There are now 250 Chinese CaUiolic priests in exile. and 300 Chinese seminarians studying abroad. in adtiltion to mans' missionaries cxpclled from China.
