CARDINAL BASIL HUME will launch this evening
the Westminster Cathedral 1995 Centenary Trust fund raising campaign.
The Cardinal is due to celebrate Mass in the Cathedral Crypt for the 35 volunteers who have undertaken to raise the £10 million to fund the Cathedral into the new mine
nium. Almost L2.5 million has already been raised in donations by the Campaign Executive Team, led by Sir Patrick Sheehy.
The Centenary Trust fundraising campaign is being launched as the Cathedral unveils plans to mark the centenary of Its foundation with liturgical, musical,
eucational and pastoral celebrations. The Cathedral. Administrator, Mgr George Stack, said, "The the members of the Campaign Team are volunteers. We have completed just 20 per cent of our fund raising visits but already we are 25 per cent of the (tray towards our target."
Gifts have come from companies, charitable trusts, and from a number of organisations and individuals.
The money raised will be used to clean, restore and conserve the Cathedral.
