Bishops to hear Dr Cassidy

Dr Sheila Cassidy, who was tortured in a Chilean prison last year, is to address the Bicentennial Committee of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of America at Maryknoll, New York, next Wednesday.

tier talk on Human Rights will be part of a collection of submissions on the theme "Liberty and Justice for All" to be made to the Bishops' Conference.

Six meetings have already been held by the Bicentennial Committee, and the seventh, at which Dr Cassidy is speaking, will discuss topics such as "International Economic Order", "Deterrence and Détente" and "American Overseas Missions".

Using material submitted to them by these hearings the American Bishops' Conference will issue a "Call to Action" at their plenary session to be held in Detroit in October.
