A Concise History of Ireland by Maire and Conor truise O'Brien (Thames & Hudsdn £2.50)
THIS book is exactly what its title states it to be: a "concise" history. It is a "mini-coffee-table" production, i.e. it is extremely decorative. but it is also, very much meant for reading.
Maire and Conor Cruise O'Brien are scholars in love with their subject, but do not flinch at the necessity of having to destroy some myths, whether they relate to 3000 B.C. or the Civil Rights Movement. The whole narrative is intensely Irish, without even being incomprehensible to English readers.
