Osservatore' warns of `propaganda'
THE Vatican newspaper,
Osservatore Romano has published the following comment on news reports concerning Cardinal Mindszenty, the imprisoned
Primate of Hungary :
"The reports concerning Cardinal Mindszenty continue to be irregular, uncertain and contradictory.
" They are irregular because there are no normal communications with anyone in a position to give reliable information and also because no private individual and much less art ecclesiastic is allowed to know of the exact condition of the Cardinal.
"They are uncertain because even the reports that filter through, in addition to the first mentioned
reason, are bound to be influenced by the state of mind and attitude of the person who brings them and thus they are not unfrequently published for reasons of propaganda for or against the regime.
"They are contradictory also for the same reasons, since reports that might be assuring with regard to the health of the Cardinal are followed by others, as has been the case recently, with really alarming reports.
The Catholic world, which does not forget this illustrious pastor and this great son of the Church. which has fought, suffers and prays, prays with him and for him, so that his sufferings, which are those of the Church itself, may be comforted by Divine assistance,'
