The Pope made three important speeches on Sunday, September 4, in which he condemned " Godless materialism," the Communist influence in trade unions and State control of schools.
First, the Pope broadcast from his summer home at Castelgandolfo to the Congress of Swiss Catholic Associations in Lucerne. (Page 5).
In his second speech, broadcast to the 73rd Catholic Rally at Bochum, in the Ruhr district of Germany, the Pope called upon Germans to put into practice Catholic social doctrine. (Below).
In his third speech, to a group of Italian teachers, the Pope traced the role of the Church in education. (Page 5).
